Need to knows

  • Respect your limitations. Yogalates and Yin are relatively low risk practices, but it's vital that all students stay aware of any potential physical limitations they may have to avoid injury during practice. Avoid pushing yourself too hard, especially if you have restrictions that may affect your practice, or are recovering from an injury. If you are hyper-mobile (more bendy than other people) it is a good idea to go about 70% into a stretch as opposed to your absolute limit, thus helping to protect your body from injury.

  • Avoid eating a heavy meal before class. It is more beneficial to your practice if you leave at least 90 minutes after eating before practising Yogalates (a piece of fruit or a light snack should be fine).

  • It is important that we start on time. Please build sufficient time into your day to adhere to this. Arriving late can be disruptive to the flow of the class, to the other students and to your own experience on the mat.

  • Bare feet is the preferred option on the mat, but warm socks can be useful for relaxation at the end, especially in chilly weather. You can also purchase yoga socks which provide a similar grip to bare feet during standing yoga postures.

  • Yogalates students will need to provide their own yoga mat, yoga block and resistance band for the public group classes (except for classes at Alcheme Wellbeing, Surbiton). Yin yoga mini retreats require students to bring a yoga mat and 1 or 2 blankets.

  • Mobile phones are not permitted in class.  If you must bring your phone to class please make sure it is on silent or airplane mode. If you are on call and need your phone with you please have your device on vibrate and answer it once outside the room.

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing which allows for movement, particularly in the hips and shoulders, e.g. a t-shirt and stretchy leggings.  Avoid restrictive clothing.  Bring layers (such as a jumper or a blanket) during colder months for the beginning and end of class.

  • Stay hydrated! Please bring a water bottle.
