Yogalates For Back Pain

Find relief from pain and greater ease of movement with my six week specialised course in St Margarets and Fulham this summer!

Hi! My name is Beth. Having suffered from chronic back pain in the past I know just how debilitating it can be.  The toll it takes on one's mental, physical and emotional wellbeing is profound. With time and patience, a responsible exercise programme and a daily restorative practice to minimise stress, I can happily say I have stayed pain free for years now.

Over the course of six weeks we'll combine the safest and most beneficial elements of Yoga and Pilates to equip you with the tools to improve your posture, mobility and flexibility, developing power and stability in the core, as well as the whole body.  We will build strength around the spine and create space and freedom in areas that are chronically tight.  Not all back problems can be magically fixed, but there are still a plethora of ways we can help manage pain, without the use of painkillers.

Stress can be a driving force for physical pain (particularly in the lower back), so there will be a focus on relaxing chronic tension via diaphragmatic breathing, deep stretching and guided meditation to help minimise day-to-day stress.  Bolsters and other yoga props will be utilised to support your practice and encourage the healing process.

The course will also teach you traditional yogic breathing exercises to help calm the mind and soothe the nervous system, simple practices that can easily be done at home or even on the daily commute!

Overcoming my own back pain involved patience, routine and self-study.

I believe realising our physical and mental habits is key to maintaining a healthy and functional muscle-skeletal framework, and I would love to help you create a personal practice that supports your back and enables you to stay healthy, happy and pain-free in the long term.

During the course you will be given home practice exercises to help with your back pain between classes.

At the end of the six weeks you'll receive a special 'Yogalates for Back Pain' PDF home practice, so you have a simple and easy to follow exercise routine to continue with after the course ends.

'Yogalates for Back Pain' will run at TWO venues this summer:

Yogalates for back pain

Yogalates can provide effective relief for those suffering from back pain due to its safe and therapeutics based approach.  Classes incorporate the 'neutral spine' concept to help improve postural imbalances, plus a Pilates emphasis on core stability; a key contributor to a happy, healthy lower back.

This workshop-style course is suitable for complete beginners to Yoga and Pilates. Modifications and alternatives are offered where appropriate and we will move through the exercises with care and consideration at a pace that feels appropriate.  As a therapeutics based practice, Yogalates is suitable for a variety of ages and abilities (though students will need to be mobile enough to be able to get up from the floor unassisted).

This course has limited capacity to ensure everyone on the course gets the support they need.  In this way the course can be a effective gateway to my general Yogalates classes (for those keen to progress), and can also be a great learning experience for those already practising Yoga and Pilates.
